Kenya’s wilder north.
The first thing you will most probably notice is the colour: ochre earth, pale grass, dark rock, green doum palms along the river. Slowly, you will see the animals that begin to appear as if from a new chapter dedicated to fauna, against the flora you have first beheld.
Keep your eyes peeled — as clichéd as it sounds — for a reticulated giraffe might move across the dry country. Or a gerenuk may rise onto its hind legs to browse its food options or perhaps even nothing. Or a Grevy's zebra might stand out in its binary glory against Earth’s dust. Or elephants, counted among the most beloved forms of life, might be seen walking gently, following the river. Or, somewhere beyond the trees, a leopard is watching life go by. Samburu has its own wildlife language, and it is a language of quiet profundity.
